Athletic Trainer

Those that are athletic and competitive are usually quite disciplined and driven. However, very few can take all of the credit themselves. Those that compete, either professionally or in other venues likely owe a lot of their success to an athletic trainer.

An athletic trainer is a challenging and difficult job. Depending on whom the client is the athletic trainer could end up battling anything from laziness to egos. An athletic trainer is responsible for developing a health and training plan for their client. This could be to get them ready for a competition or to help someone reach a personal goal. The athletic trainer needs to know which types of activities will help their clients reach their goals.

An athletic trainer needs to have both knowledge and experience. The need to have knowledge of anatomy and exercise science. They also need to have experience in the sports, health or fitness industry. If they have both of these things then their chances of securing employment increase greatly.

There are several places to find athletic trainer jobs. Gyms and fitness centers are great places to start searching. Quite often they hire athletic trainers to give individual classes to their members. They also hire them to work one on one with some of their members with more specific goals.

Colleges and universities are also good places to look for athletic trainer jobs. These generally have fairly large sports departments and have a need for a steady supply of good athletic trainers. Knowledge of team sports may be beneficial in these instances.

Athletic trainer training is also quite widely available. Universities and community colleges are usually the best places to start looking. Institutions such as the YMCA also offer their own programs in athletic training. Being certified through one of these routes is highly recommended if one is serious in pursuing this as a career.

An athletic trainer is a stressful but interesting job. Those who take this on as a career may find themselves working with professional athletes or with people who want to make a positive change in their health. If one wants to be an athletic trainer there are plenty of opportunities for work and plenty of places to study.
