Javelin
the early 1900’s and still is only practiced by highly trained athletes. Most high schools do not allow the javelin throw as a competition due to the potential dangers it involves. Only a few colleges and universities have javelin as a part of their track and field events.
Although javelin is quite new to the sporting world, it has its origins in ancient times. It has its roots in hunting and warfare of ancient tribes and civilizations. The Greeks make many references to javelin throwing and were even believed to have had the sport in the ancient Olympic Games.
Those that do throw the Javelin train in many areas. The technique involves a combination of running and throwing. Many javelin throwers will train with sprinters to maximize their performance in this portion of their technique. Another important aspect of javelin training is core strength. This helps contribute to their balance and coordination. Finally the javelin thrower will tone the arms and shoulders. This of course will help with the launch or throwing of the Javelin.

Learning to throw the javelin takes time and discipline. One may also have to pay for private coaching due to the fact that most schools do not allow it for an event. However, talking to high school and college track and field coaches is a good place to begin. If they cannot help themselves then they can likely find someone who can.
Learning to throw javelin also requires some equipment. Javelins can be purchased via sporting goods stores. Shoes and other pieces of equipment can be purchased in the same places. If the local sporting goods stores do not supply javelin equipment then online is the next best option.
Javelin does pose some dangers but it is an exciting sport that offers a lot in the way of strength, training and agility. It has only recently been recognized as an event but has its own long history. Learning the javelin takes discipline but if one is determined anything is possible.
