Track And Field Coaching

Anyone who has ever participated in team sports at any age usually has had a coach. Coaches are necessary in nearly every sporting situation. Even professional athletes with years of playing experience still rely on coaches to help them with their techniques and moves. Track and field coaching is no different. Most track and field teams in high schools and colleges, as well as Olympic and professional all have coaches.

Track and field coaching at the school level is usually comprised of one or two people. More could be involved depending on the size of the school and the team. Track and field coaching at this level involves the coaches having a wide range of knowledge over several different events. Most of them have knowledge of the track and fields events together.

Track and field coaching at the university level does change slightly. The teams are usually bigger and the athletes of a much higher caliber. Track and field coaching will still involve the coaches having some knowledge of all events; however they may specialize and focus on individual athletes slightly more than at the high school level. There may also be a larger coaching team at the college and university level.

Track and field coaching at the Olympic and professional level changes. Most of the athletes will have their own coaches to help them with their own individual events. It is true the Olympic team will have their own coaching staff; however they athletes will still retain their own coaches for advice and support.

Finding work as a track and field coach isn’t too difficult. Many high schools are desperate for good coaches to work with their students. However, they pay at this level won’t be great. The situation completely changes once one gets to the Olympic and professional levels. Track and field coaching becomes very lucrative once you get to this layer of competition.

Most athletes today owe some of their success to their coaches. They are the ones that train and motivate them to do better. Good coaches are essential for good athletic programs and athletes at any level. Without them, athletic programs suffer greatly.
