One thing many people fail to realize when it comes to putting on a track and field event is all of the money that goes into track and field equipment. Hundreds of pieces of equipment are needed to put an event like this on. When one thinks of schools and the costs of maintaining a track team one soon asks the question of how they do it.

Track and field equipment comes in many shapes. For the running event there needs to be a track with an adequate surface. Adding to this wooden hurdles need to be placed for the many hurdling events contained in a track meet. These need to be replaced quite frequently due to wear and tear and runners crashing into them.

Although running events don’t come in cheap, some of the field events end up costing a fortune. Throwing events such as shot put, discus and javelin all need there own pieces of equipment. This equipment is meant to last quite a while but does eventually give way to use. There are also safety requirement that have to be met with items such as javelin. The throwing events can quickly eat up a large portion of any institutions track and field equipment budget.

Other field events also can cost a pretty penny when it comes to track and field equipment. The pole vault and high jump all have their own pieces that have to measure up to safety standards. There are also mats that need to be put in place so the athletes don’t suffer injuries.

Getting track and field equipment cheap isn’t always easy. Several places will offer discounts to schools and youth clubs. However even with all of these in place the total bill can still be quite costly. Some institutions will look into purchasing the equipment used. Provided it meets with safety standards it is usually fine.

The cost of track and field equipment can be quite steep. For this reason many schools have had to cut back on their track and field programs. Getting the equipment cheap is still rather difficult even when stores and suppliers supply good discounts.
