Track Events
During the spring and summer months, one of the most popular sporting activities are track events. Competitions begin at all levels from small children all the way up to professional athletes. Track events are fun and diverse. Those who can run fast can compete in the sprinting events, those that can run for long distances can compete in distance running, and those that crave agility can have a try at hurdles. Track events have something for everyone.
The track events themselves usually take place in the spring and summer months. This is to coincide with the school year as well as weather. Most track events are held outside so it is necessary to wait for the warmer months for the competitions. The track events schedule usually kicks off in mid to late April. Depending on how long a particular schools season is, it will usually end around mid to late June. Colleges, Universities and professionals will continue to compete well into the summer and fall months.

Track events are typically held outside; however there is a greater pressure to move the sports indoors. Indoor track events are gaining more and more popularity. They allow for a longer season and help athletes stay at the top of their game. It makes the sport less and less dictated by weather as well. Indoor track events never get rained out and called off due to calls of nature.
For anyone wanting to pursue track events the best advice is to start young. Fortunately many schools today are behind starting track events for kids. Some schools as early as the primary years are getting children running, jumping and throwing. Even if the children never go on to become the next Carl Lewis, track events are good for their health and overall agility.
Track events are fun to watch. They are also easy to become involved with due to their wide range. What was one purely a spring and summer sport is now nearly going on year round. For those that show an interest in track events, best to encourage them while they are young. Professional dreams may not come true but the all around health benefits are worth far more.
